What is the Center for Asian Studies Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

The Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp, hosted by the Center for Asian Studies, is an exciting program designed to immerse children in Chinese language and culture through interactive activities inspired by both the beloved Kung Fu Panda movies and Journey to the West, one of the greatest classic Chinese novels. 

Who can participate in the Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

Children ages 5 to 15 are welcome to join the camp, regardless of their proficiency in Chinese language and culture. High school-age campers are especially encouraged to participate and benefit from the enriching experience. 

What activities are included in the Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

The camp offers a diverse range of activities, including Chinese language lessons, calligraphy, tai chi, kung fu demonstrations, Chinese folk dances, storytelling, and cultural crafts. High school-age campers also will have the opportunity to meet with UT Dallas admissions officers to learn about college preparations. Additionally, campers will have the chance to showcase character traits such as bravery, inspired by Kung Fu Panda, and perseverance, inspired by Journey to the West, in teamwork activities. 

When/how can I register my child for the Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

Registration for the camp is limited and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opens at the end of March and closes by the early bird registration deadline at the beginning of May (pending on spot availability). What are the benefits of participating in the Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

By attending the camp, children not only learn basic Chinese language skills, but also gain cultural awareness and appreciation. They develop valuable skills such as teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving in a dynamic and supportive environment. Campers also can benefit from outstanding interns from St. Mark’s School of Texas and the NiHao Food Bank Initiative.  

What if my child cannot attend the camp anymore? Can I cancel and get a refund? 

We understand that life happens. If you would like to withdraw from the camp, we will grant you a full refund minus the non-refundable deposit. We cannot offer refunds once the first day of camp has started.  

What is the final showcase for the Gong Fu Panda Chinese Language Summer Camp? 

The final showcase is an event where campers will demonstrate what they have learned during the summer camp. It’s an opportunity for them to showcase their skills and achievements to their parents, relatives, and friends. 

When and where will the final showcase take place? 

The final showcase always takes place on the last day of the camp on campus from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Details for the showcase venue will be sent directly to parents/guardians. 

What can we expect to see at the final showcase? 

The showcase will feature various programs including displays of calligraphy and painting works, crafts, performances of Chinese songs, dances and poems, as well as demonstrations of kung fu and tai chi fan routines. 

Who is invited to attend the final showcase? 

Parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, and anyone interested in celebrating the achievements of the campers are invited to attend the final showcase. RSVP with the camp director to celebrate the accomplishments of the campers.
